Talpos Today November 2005
Dear friends and family,
Greetings from Romania and Happy Thanksgiving! (I'm sure by the time you receive this, Thanksgiving has long passed :) ), but on this Thanksgiving Day I have been reminded about how much we have to be thankful for. Some of you received an e-mail from me with this prayer written by Samuel F. Pugh, but I also want to share it in my newsletter and even though Thanksgiving has passed, it is good to keep this prayer in our hearts everyday.
"O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work, help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency; bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help; By word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen."
For those of you who didn't know, I was in the states the end of October. I stayed for just a little over two weeks. My first cousin was getting married and she asked my sister Sandra, my mother and I to sing. It was a joy to be home and see all my relatives and have a short visit with my family and some friends.
Five days after returning to Romania , three very special visitors arrived. I was blessed with a short visit by H.I.M.'s director, Rev. Sidney Grant, H.I.M.'s assistant director and regional director for Eastern Europe and Russia , Dr. Bill Saxton and his wife Sis. Judy Saxton. It was such a pleasure to have them here. We had a wonderful time of fellowship together!

While they were here in Romania , our church had a celebration very similar to our Thanksgiving. The church people give thanks every year to the Lord for the harvest that they have had. For this celebration, both Revs. Saxton and Grant preached. Their sermons were a blessing to all.
The orphans are doing well. Some of them have been having some physical problems and we have been to the doctor on on several occasions. I have had to give three of the orphans injections for a course of ten days. It was not a fun job for me and neither did they enjoy it very much :( , but some things are just necessary. Thank the Lord they are all feeling better and we pray that God will continue to help them.
Little Elvi has been having sinus problems and the doctor says she has a very large nasal polyp that needs to be removed. So, it looks like after she takes a course of treatment (she was one of the children who received injections) she will have surgery to remove the polyp. This means that within the next two weeks I will be spending at least two nights in the hospital with her. Because of the poor conditions in the hospital, we don't like to leave the children unattended. So I am asking you to pray for her that her surgery will go well and she will heal quickly.
Even though Elvi has had some bad days, she also had a good day. She just celebrated her fifth birthday. Yeah! The little ones and I enjoyed some cupcakes together and had fun dressing up for her day. Each time one of the orphans celebrates a birthday, I am reminded how wonderful it is to be part of their lives and to help them to know Jesus better. I am blessed every time I hear them pray. Through your prayers and support I am here and I can't think of a better place to be than here in Romania working with these children. Thank you for all you contribute to the ministry here !
Well, Christmas time is just around the corner and the busyness of the season has started. Along with my normal schedule, I have additional practices with the orphans, church children and teens. I am praying that God will help me not to get so busy and wrapped up in all the work to forget the real meaning of Christmas. I think we all need to be careful of this. I also ask you to pray for all who will attend our special services. Many unsaved people attend church during the holidays and we pray that through the messages they hear in song and word that they will come to know Jesus as their Savior.
Along with practices, the plans for making and distributing the Christmas packages for the poor families, gypsy children, church children, teens and orphans are in full swing. I so love being able to hand out these gifts during the holidays. I wish all of you could come and see the joy on the faces of the ones who receive them.
Thank you so much for your giving towards the Romanian Christmas fund. Your gift helps to make Christmas special for so many. If you haven't yet given, but still would like to, you can send your gift to H.I.M. clearly marked, “Romanian Christmas fund.” I know that God will bless you for your giving.
If you remember in my last newsletter I asked you to pray for one of my teens Mircea, God is helping him in a wonderful way. Praise the Lord! Mircel said that he has asked God to forgive him of turning away from him. He says his desire is to be all that God wants him to be. God has been helping him. He has been coming to church and Sunday school on a regular basis and you can see the difference in his countenance. I ask you to continue to pray for him that God will help him grow strong in his faith.
Well, that is all for now. I just want to again thank you for your prayers and support and I pray that this Holiday season be filled with God's presence and may we remember that Jesus is the real reason for the season.
In His Service,
Sally
Some would gather money
Along the path of life.
Some would gather roses
And rest from earthly strife.
But I would gather children
From among the thorns of sin;
I would seek a golden curl
And a freckled, toothless grin.
For money cannot enter
Into the land of endless day,
And roses that are gathered
Soon will wilt along the way,
But oh, the laughing children,
As I cross the sunset sea,
And the gates swing wide to heaven
I can take them in with me.
