Talpos Today January 2007
Dear Friends and family,
Greetings from Romania and Happy New Year! I trust that you had a blessed Holiday season. I pray that your New Year will be filled with God’s peace and His presence and may you desire to serve Him better and be more of a witness for Him in 2007.
This newsletter will be focused on our Christmas here in Romania. God gave us strength and help during this Holiday Season. It was a very busy time. There were Christmas program practices with the orphans, church children, teens and kindergarteners.
However all the hard work was worth it. The children and young people did so well and many lives were touched by the message of the play and the songs we sang. To God be the glory!
The orphans also had a program for Christmas. They sang a few songs, recited some poems and also played bells. Elvi who is just 5 years old sang her first solo in church and did a wonderful job. God has blessed her with a beautiful voice and we pray that she will continue to sing for the glory of God.
In the midst of all the practices, the orphans and I found time to put up the tree and decorate the orphanage.
The youth group also got together and decorated the church for Christmas. It was an evening full of fun and fellowship.

Many Christmas packs were also prepared and handed out to the gypsy children, poor families, church children, teens and orphans.
The gypsy children were again thrilled to receive their Christmas bags. Same as last year, like a thief :-) I had to sneak the packs into the church late Saturday evening. This year the packs contained shampoo, a large bar of soap, lotion, laundry detergent, a toothbrush, toothpaste (thank you Rev. Mark Fultz and the congregation at Cooperstown for your generous contribution of over 350 tubes of toothpaste this summer) a comb, chocolate, gum, a banana, two oranges and many other items. I wish you could have been there to see the excitement and pure joy on the faces of the children as they were given their gifts.
The orphans also were so happy to open their Christmas presents. Before they came to the orphanage not one of them had ever received gifts or even decorated a tree at Christmas time. They realize that they are truly blessed and they send a great big thank you to all of you who gave to make their Christmas extra special.
The church children and teens received their gifts on Christmas Eve after we performed our play. Just as other years, we gave not only to the children who were part of the Christmas program, but also to all the children that were at church that evening. How thrilled they were to go home with a bag full of goodies and some oranges.

It was a blessing to have the Hausman family here to help. Laura and I did the shopping for the poor family packs and the rest of the family helped make the packs. The family packs this year contained oil, flour, sugar, salt, beans, rice, laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, spaghetti, macaroni, hand lotion, toothpaste (again thanks to Cooperstown) and several other items. Natasha, Brittany and Daryl were also able to be involved in delivering some of the bags. How wonderful to see the joy on the faces of the ones who received something special this Christmas!
As you can see, there were many who were blessed this Christmas by your giving. I want to thank all of you who gave toward the Romanian Christmas fund. Your giving made it possible to help over 500 people. I pray that God will bless you for your kindness and generosity.
Thank you again and God bless you!
In His Service,
Sally
Some would gather money
Along the path of life.
Some would gather roses
And rest from earthly strife.
But I would gather children
From among the thorns of sin;
I would seek a golden curl
And a freckled, toothless grin.
For money cannot enter
Into the land of endless day,
And roses that are gathered
Soon will wilt along the way,
But oh, the laughing children,
As I cross the sunset sea,
And the gates swing wide to heaven
I can take them in with me.
