About Me

For those of you who don't know me, let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Pocono Hospital on a beautiful fall day. Actually, my birthday falls on Halloween and my family is still trying to decide whether I am a trick or a treat :-)

I attended public school until the ninth grade. The summer before my sophomore year in high school I gave my heart to the Lord and since that time I have been serving Him. I attended West Virginia Bible School from tenth to twelfth grade and during this time, I went on two summer missions trips with my school. One was to South Dakota. The other was in Canada. This was when I first became interested in working with children and mission work, but at that time I didn’t feel a definite direction towards the mission field.

After graduating from high school, I returned home and entered nursing school feeling that was God’s will for my life at that time. During that time I taught Sunday School, was involved with the youth department, and stayed as active in the church as possible.

I graduated from nursing school with no definite plans, so I ended up working in the nursing field for a few years. About two years after working as a nurse, I felt directed into Missions. I don’t know about you, but I used to think that God’s will come with this great voice from Heaven or a divine revelation. Now, if that’s how God called you, that’s wonderful, but God didn’t work that way in my life. It wasn’t a voice from Heaven. It wasn’t a bonk on the head. It wasn’t even this miraculous sign from above. It was God helping me to realize that there is a lost and dying world out there. Who would go and tell them about Jesus? I had a responsibility as a Christian. I needed to share the gospel with a lost and dying world. At that time, I had no idea where I would be going, or even which organization I would be serving under. However, I’ve learned that if we trust God with our future, He will lead us.

After feeling a "pull" towards missions, I felt it necessary to obtain some more education. I had heard that Penn View Bible Institute had a tremendous missions program, so I prayed about it and I ended up joining their program. While at Penn View I was still able to work as a nurse and had the privilege of working at a wonderful Family Practice office.

I had graduated from Penn View and had been praying about the next step in my life. I needed to know what God wanted for me. I remember praying earnestly one day, "Lord please show me what you want for me." If I could have been split up into forty different people, I would have worked on forty different fields, for the need for workers is great. But of course that wasn’t possible. So, I really felt I needed some specific direction.

A day or two after this time a friend of mine who is a missionary with H.I.M. (formerly FEA) gave me a call. He told me that Dr. Keaton had just called him and was wondering if he knew of anyone who was interested in working with children. H.I.M. (formerly FEA) was in the process of building an orphanage in Romania and workers were needed. My friend told me he instantly thought of me.

As I was talking to him I felt such a peace. I can't explain exactly how I felt, but it was as if God was telling me, "Sally this is the work that I have for you. This is where I want you." You see, I love working with children. I have been involved in children’s work for a long time. I’ve taught Sunday school, held VBS’s and at that time I was working with the bus ministry at Beavertown God's Missionary Church. This was God saying to me, Sally this is what I have for you; Follow me! So, I went through all the necessary steps to become a missionary with H.I.M. and now I am on the mission field working in Romanian with such dear children.

Since that time I have not been disappointed. God has affirmed to me time and time again that this is where He wants me. I cannot say that I haven’t had trials or tests. I cannot say that I have never been homesick. I cannot say that I haven’t questioned God about His plans for me here, but I can say that God has given me sufficient grace and help in every need. I want to encourage you to trust God with your future. He will lead you and guide you every step of the way if you will yield your life. to Him.

As I look over my life, I am amazed how God has been directing me up until this point and I am reminded once again that God has a purpose and a plan for all that we face. It is such a privilege to serve such a wonderful Heavenly Father and work for Him and I pray that my life will have an impact on the children that I work with. I want them to feel the love of Jesus working through me.
